Singapore, 1 August 2016 – GlobalRoam Group (“GlobalRoam”), a local telecom services firm, announced today the appointment of Mr Thomas Laboulle as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Mr Laboulle, 32, takes over from Mr Clarence Tan, who founded GlobalRoam. The changes are part of the company’s efforts to deepen its management bench.
Before joining GlobalRoam, Mr Laboulle headed Mundito, a management consulting firm he founded in 2012. Mr Laboulle, a change management specialist, has pioneered business models for companies in sectors such as IT and fintech.
Mr Laboulle was previously also an infantry officer in the Belgian military for 11 years, during which he spent time in Lebanon and Afghanistan on tours of duty.
GlobalRoam’s offerings include GNum, an app that routes phone calls through personalised URLs and pfingo, a mobile app that allows users to make overseas calls at affordable rates. In 2014, GNum received S$7.0 million in seed funding from private equity firm Tembusu Partners Pte Ltd.
Mr Laboulle said: “Our vision is to empower consumers to connect with anyone in a heartbeat without having to worry about blowing a hole in their budget. We have scheduled a release for the last quarter of 2016 that will introduce new features and make our app more comprehensive and relevant to users.”
“The emergence of various over-the-top players in the telecommunications industry has presented both opportunities and challenges for incumbents. I am happy to be a part of GlobalRoam’s dynamic startup culture and look forward to navigating this new landscape,” Mr Laboulle added.
Mr Lim Soon Hock, Chairman of GlobalRoam, said: “With Thomas on board as CEO, we will be in a better position to take GlobalRoam to the next level. His experience as an entrepreneur will be invaluable to GlobalRoam. He will build on the strong foundation laid by Clarence and his team, to unlock the full potential of our IP.”
“I am also pleased to announce the promotion of Clarence Tan to the position of Deputy Executive Chairman. Clarence will continue to be the visionary champion of our Group; he will lead the Group towards a listing, seek funding, pursue M&As, and drive the monetisation of infringements of our intellectual property,” Mr Lim added.
GlobalRoam will expand its product team to strengthen its capabilities in UI (user interface) and UX (user experience) design, as well as augmented reality.
